Vigo County CASA plans family event at riverside park

Special to the Tribune-Star

TERRE HAUTE — Vigo County CASA Kids plans to host its fourth annual Family Bash on the Wabash from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Fairbanks Park.

The Family Bash features family-friendly activities such as food, games, prizes, pony cart races, storytime with Mother Goose, live music from the Crowe Committee and a silent auction.

Event sponsor Queen City Classic Tattoos will be offering temporary tattoos for kids.

This year, the Bash will feature the inaugural Tour de CASA bike race. This fundraiser bike race, sponsored by Kirkham Hardwoods, is set for 1 to 3 p.m. at Fairbanks Park. There is a $30 registration fee. The winner of the race is calculated by the number of laps completed times the number of dollars raised by the rider. First place is a Trek 1.5 bike, sponsored by Lucky Reddy.  Visit to register for the race.

Last year, the Bash raised nearly $6,000 to help abused and neglected children in Vigo County. These funds are used to cover expenses for enrichment and extracurricular activities, basic needs such as clothing, bedding and food, and to help support the mission of Vigo County CASA.

CASA, which stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates, serves more than 350 children annually, providing trained volunteer advocates to represent the best interests of foster children involved in the juvenile court system, according to a CASA news release.
