Vigo County sheriff deputy arrested

U.S. attorney’s office in control of case

TERRE HAUTE — A Vigo County Sheriff’s deputy was arrested Friday on allegations related to child pornography, Indiana State Police have confirmed to the Tribune-Star.

“We conducted an investigation on child pornography that lead us to the residence of a Vigo County sheriff’s deputy. He was placed under arrest today,” said Sgt. Joe Watts, Indiana State Police-Putnamville on Friday evening.

The Vigo County Sheriff’s Department is aware of the arrest, he said.

The U.S attorney’s office has taken over the case for federal charges and is expected to conduct a news conference Monday.

“It’s now a U.S. attorney case. We can’t speak for them,” Watts said. He could not release the identity of the sheriff’s deputy.

Indiana State Police began their investigation in January, Watts said.

The deputy remains incarcerated.
