TERRE HAUTE — Vigo County’s first baby of 2014 arrived early Wednesday, a week late, but still on a holiday.

Nevaeh Dee Williams arrived at 1:51 a.m. at Union Hospital weighing 7 pounds, 15 ounces and measuring 20 inches long.

“She was due Christmas Day, and a week later, we get a New Year’s baby,” said mother Tara Williams as she held her second daughter with husband, Matt Williams, nearby.

The Clay City couple said they were pleased to have a New Year’s baby, especially since Nevaeh was born on the wedding anniversary for Tara’s mother and stepfather.

Tara said that her labor pains began Tuesday afternoon, but they delayed arriving at the hospital until about 9 p.m. The next almost five hours of contractions were pretty hard core, she said.

Tara and Matt, who have been married for six years and a couple for about 10 years, already have a 4-year-old daughter, Tayln. They had picked out both names – Tayln and Nevaeh – before their first daughter’s birth, so they already had a name in reserve for their second daughter.

Matt said he chose the child’s middle name Dee after his own late father Lonnie’s middle name.

Tara, who said she gets to be a stay-at-home mom for a while, said Tayln is eager to help with her new sister.

“She thinks this is her own personalized baby doll,” she said, laughing. “She wants to feed her and change her.”

The couple said they hope that their daughters grow up with a close relationship.

“Me and my brother are a year apart,” Matt said, “and you can’t get any closer. Of course, as kids we fought some, but now we’re close.”

Maternal grandparents for Nevaeh are Lisa and Vance Weir, and Eric and Linda Curry. Paternal grandmother is Wendy Francis.

Meanwhile, two other area hospitals also reported New Year’s babies who will have Jan. 1 birthdays.

• At Greene County Hospital in Linton, Devyn Matthew Delph arrived at 2:43 a.m. Wednesday.

Weighing 5 pounds, 5 ounces and measuring 20 inches, he is the son of Pam and Seth Delph of Coal City.

Seth said the couple was not expecting to have a New Year’s baby, but Devyn made an early entrance with his arrival.

• At Terre Haute Regional Hospital, a baby girl arrived at 7:26 a.m. Wednesday.

Halle Jean weighed 10 pounds, 2 ounces and was 21 inches long. She was born to parents Leslee and Brian, who asked that their last name not be used to protect their privacy. Halle is the couple’s second child, and she was named by her 4-year-old sister, Olivia, who picked out the name months ago, mother Leslee said.
