Man faces charges in New Year's Eve homicide

TERRE HAUTE —

Terre Haute Police Department  Assistant Chief Shawn Keen issued this press release today concerning a homicide that occurred Tuesday night:

"On December 31, 2013, at approximately 7:26 P.M., officers of the Terre Haute Police Department responded to the report of a fight in progress at 2615 Dillman Street.

"Upon officer’s arrival, they discovered an unresponsive male on the ground in front of the residence. One of the responding officers noticed what appeared to be stab wounds and trauma to the body while performing CPR.

"The male was transported to Regional Hospital, and later determined to be deceased.

"Detectives responded to the scene, and began processing for evidence, and identifying witnesses to the incident.

"One male, Phillip A. Evans, was detained shortly after investigators began to speak with witnesses. Phillip Evans has been taken into custody on preliminary charges of Murder and Aggravated Battery. The investigation is on-going, and other arrests are possible. Evans is a 35 year-old resident of Terre Haute. The name of the 27 year-old victim is being withheld pending notification to family."
