Autopsy: Officer died of natural causes

TERRE HAUTE — Authorities said Saturday that the Indiana State Police officer who was found dead at his home Friday afternoon died of natural causes.

The autopsy on Indiana State Police Corporal Michael J. Capicik, which had been previously scheduled for Tuesday, was completed late Saturday afternoon at Terre Haute Regional Hospital, according to the Indiana State Police.  Vigo County Coroner Dr. Susan Amos and the Indiana State Police have released the results, which lists the cause of death as heart attack and manner of death as natural causes.

The pathologist was Dr. Roland Kohr, police said.

A friend found Capicik unresponsive in the bathroom of his South Center Street home at 12:09 p.m., on Friday, police said. He was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to a news release.

Capicik, 52, was scheduled to retire in January 2014 after 28 years of service with the ISP, authorities said.

Funeral arrangements are pending and will be made public as soon as they are finalized, police said.
