A Terre Haute man died Tuesday from injuries sustained in an early morning crash on Indiana 46 two miles west of Riley.
Just before 9 p.m. Tuesday, Vigo County Chief Deputy Clark Cottom confirmed the man, David M. Pine II, 22, had succumbed to his injuries. He had been taken first to Terre Haute Regional Hospital and then to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where he died.
Pine was the driver of a westbound Dodge pickup that went off the highway and struck a guard rail, overturning into a ditch, police said.
The vehicle came to rest upside down, and Pine was extricated by Riley Fire and Rescue.
Cottom said it was unknown why the vehicle went off the road, but deputies investigating learned that Pine was returning to his Terre Haute residence from working out of county. The accident occurred at 3:28 a.m.
Cottom also reported that deputies do not believe that alcohol was a factor in the crash, but in compliance with state law on all serious injury crashes, a chemical test for intoxication was conducted.
