TERRE HAUTE —
A Sullivan woman was seriously injured and a Terre Haute woman was arrested for drunk driving following a two-vehicle accident in southern Vigo County late Thursday.
The Vigo County Sheriff’s Department reports that motorist Michelle C. LeMay had to be extricated from her 1990 Honda Accord by Riley and Honey Creek firefighters, and was transported by Trans-Care ambulance to a landing point for Lifeline helicopter, which airlifted her to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She was listed Friday in good and stable condition.
Kelly S. Stuffle, 44, of Terre Haute, was arrested for driving while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury. She had a blood-alcohol content of .26 percent when tested at Terre Haute Regional Hospital, where she was transported for treatment of facial injuries.
She appeared in Vigo Superior Court 5 Friday for an initial probable cause hearing. Her bond was set at $50,000 cash, and she posted bail shortly before 4 p.m. Her next court date is Wednesday for formalization of charges.
Police report that the accident occurred at about 10 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Harlan Drive and Singhurst Street
Deputy Drew Stangle reported he was traveling west on Harlan Drive when he arrived at the intersection and saw two vehicles that had extensive damage. His initial investigation revealed that LeMay’s vehicle had been westbound on Harlan when it was struck by a Pontiac Bonneville driven by Stuffle. The impact sent LeMay’s car into a utility pole.
After receiving medical treatment, Stuffle was taken to the Vigo County Jail, where she was also cited for disregarding a stop sign.
