Accident cuts power in Greene County

One man treated for injuries

LINTON — A 26-year-old male was transported to the hospital after an accident Friday night at the intersection of Indiana 54 and Indiana 59 in Greene County.

Matthew A. Johnson, of Dugger, was sent to Greene County General Hospital for treatment for lacerations to the side and leg, injuries he received after he lost control of his vehicle and eventually rolled over, police said. He also complained of neck pain, they added.

According to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Johnson was traveling east on Indiana 54. He told police he may have struck ice. The vehicle — a maroon 1998 Oldsmobile Bravada — crossed the center line on Indiana 54 and traveled approximately 400 feet off the roadway and across other traffic lanes. It then struck a utility pole and a ditch and rolled over before finally coming to rest on its top, police said.

The intersection was closed for several hours, police said, so repairs can be done to the utility pole to restore electricity. Multiple homes in the area were without electricity, authorities said.

Other departments that responded included Linton Police Department, Linton Fire Department, Greene County Ambulance and the Indiana Department of Transportation, police said.
