TERRE HAUTE —
A 48-year-old male is dead and one man was arrested in a homicide that happened early this morning in Terre Haute, police said.
According to the Terre Haute Police Department, the male victim, whose identity is being withheld pending family notification, was found lying inside a home at 1900 block of 23rd 1/2 Drive with what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds. He was prounounced dead at the scene.
Terre Haute Police Department said officers responded to the report of a shooting at the residence at approximately 12:52 a.m. Witnesses at the scene told police the suspect fled in a silver jeep, authorities said.
The suspect, identified as Kevin A. Williams, was later found at Days Inn in Terre Haute, police said, and was arrested on preliminary charges of murder and possession of a firearm without a license.
At about 1:53 a.m., officers conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle matching the description provided by witnesses near the intersection of Thirteenth Street and Tippecanoe Street, police said.
The Terre Haute Police Department said Willie L. Jenkins was taken into custody for preliminary charges of obstruction of justice and false reporting.
The female driver, Janet Akers, was also arrested for a preliminary charge of assisting a criminal, police said.
