Clark County arson death treated as homicide

CASEY, ILL. — The cause of death is not being released for a Casey, Ill., man whose body was found Wednesday during an arson investigation.

Clark County Coroner Jeff Pearce told the Tribune-Star on Friday that the death of Gregory Scott Collins, 54, is considered a homicide. Pearce said that a dog was also found dead inside the home, and he also declined to say how the dog died.

The house fire was reported early Wednesday morning in the 700 block of East Jefferson Street in Casey.

The Clark County State’s Attorney Office in Marshall, Ill., issued a news release that confirmed that Scott’s death is being investigated by the Illinois State Police as a homicide.

“No further details are being released at this time as the disclosure of the details of the offense could jeopardize the investigation,” the release stated.

Anyone with information relating to the crime is asked to call the ISP at 217-342-2292.
