Vigo library getting more ‘Leap Pads’ for young readers

TERRE HAUTE — The Vigo County Public Library will soon have even more “Leap Pads” for young library customers, thanks to a federal grant.

The VCPL received more than $5,000 from a competitive Library Services and Technology Act grant that will allow the facility to purchase dozens of new “Leap Pad” tablets for young people

Leap Pads are kids’ tablets that include eBooks, educator-approved games, apps and videos as well as other functions. The ones the library already has available have been very popular, said Kristi Howe, library director.

“They’re a great tool for kids,” Howe said during Monday night’s meeting of the seven-person library board of directors.

The $5,080 LSTA grant will allow the library to purchase approximately 42 new Leap Pads, Howe said.
