UAP selects Smith as new CEO

TERRE HAUTE — Mindy Smith is the new chief executive officer of Union Associated Physicians Clinic, succeeding Patrick S. Board, who was appointed Union Health System chief executive officer in December, according to a news release.

Smith most recently served as vice president of clinics, outpatient services and development at HealthEast Care System in St. Paul, Minn. HealthEast consists of three general acute-care hospitals, one long-term acute-care facility, 15 primary-care clinics and 13 outpatient centers, a home healthcare agency and a transportation company.

“We are looking forward to having Mindy’s experience as part of UAP Clinic and Union Health System team,” Board said. “Mindy has a passion for customer service, is an excellent communicator and works to foster excellent relationships with physicians. She also has considerable experience working as part of an integrated healthcare organization that will be helpful as we continue efforts to advance the [UAP] system.”

Smith began her career with an internship at a specialty hospital where she decided health care was her passion and then went on to work in several health systems. Smith was an administrator of a small physician practice in Minneapolis before joining the HealthEast Care System and serving in several different roles with increasing responsibility over her 20-year tenure.

Smith earned her bachelor’s degree at the University of Minnesota in Duluth and her master’s degree in organizational leadership at the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul.

“I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to join the Union Health System team during a rapidly evolving and exciting time in the healthcare industry,” Smith said. “As I assume the leadership position of UAP Clinic, I am mindful of both the legacy created by Pat Board and the stewardship necessary to continue our forward movement. With the support of the board, physicians, staff and community leaders, I have every confidence we will continue to successfully build upon our existing foundation focused on the health and wellness of this great community.”

Smith and her husband, Mike, have two sons in college.
