CLAY COUNTY RESULTS

BRAZIL — In Clay County, final election results were tabulated before 8 p.m., said Jason Jacobs, Clay County election clerk.

This is the first year that Clay County has vote centers, which used Internet connection and electronic poll books. Poll workers used an iPad Air to check in voters.

“It went very smoothly,” Jacobs said. “We didn’t have quite as many votes as the last few mid-term primaries,” but it was very close.

Out of 19,198 registered voters, 4,879 cast ballots, which translates to a 25.4 percent voter turnout.

Typically, mid-term primaries in recent years have drawn about 4,900 voters, Jacobs said. With the big change to vote centers, “To end up with a similar amount of votes is a success to me,” he said.

Clay County has 23 precincts and this year used eight vote centers.

Poll workers liked the new technology, he said.

As far as voting, “It seemed like it was a pretty steady flow at all the locations,” he said.

In terms of election results, challenger Robert Pell defeated incumbent prosecutor B. Lee Reberger Jr. in the Republican primary, 1,762 votes to 1,422.
