Police arrest two in shootings in eastside neighborhood

TERRE HAUTE — Two people have been arrested in connection with an early Sunday shooting near 19th and Locust streets.

Quentin Parker Jr., 29,  of Terre Haute, is facing allegations of attempted murder, aggravated battery and possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, according to information provided by the Terre Haute Police Department.

The allegations are in connection with a shooting that took place at about 3 a.m. Sunday. Two males were injured in the shooting. One victim was shot in the neck area and one was shot in the back as he attempted to flee, police said.

Also arrested in connection with the incident was Gavin Williams, 31, of Terre Haute. He is facing an allegation of criminal recklessness. Police said Williams fired shots into the air, but is not accused of shooting the two victims who were injured.

Assistant Chief Shawn Keen said Terre Haute police arrested the two men Tuesday as part of the investigation. Terre Haute police detectives located Parker during a traffic stop in the 1700 block of North 10th Street. Police also served a warrant to search a house, car and cell phone in the 1700 block of North 10th Street on Tuesday. No guns or illegal drugs were found during the search, Keen said.

Parker and Williams are expected to make court appearances today. Parker has a previous conviction for class-C felony battery and served almost four years in prison in that Vigo County case.

The two gunshot victims were taken to a local hospital before being transferred to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment. Both of those victims have been treated and released, Keen said.
