Skeleton's source still uncertain

CASEY, ILL. — The investigation into skeletal remains found Wednesday in an Illinois field continues as expert examination of the bones is expected.

Clark County Coroner Jeff Pearce told the Tribune-Star that he has contacted an anthropologist about examining the remains, which were found in an overgrown field inside the city limits of Casey on Wednesday.

Pearce said he cannot determine if the remains are from a male or female.

When asked about a time estimate that the body could have been in the field, Pearce said that the property owner had mowed the field at least once during the summer, and anyone mowing the field would have seen a body.

Pearce said he is also checking on missing person reports to see if anyone in the area has gone missing in recent months.

“I’m working on finding out what we have,” he said of the investigation.

Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is asked to contact the Illinois State Police at 217-342-2292.
