Kids at Children’s Museum spend part of afternoon doing exercises with NFL pro

TERRE HAUTE — Steve Weatherford, a New York Giants punter, continued his day of giving back to his home town Saturday afternoon at the Children’s Museum after hosting his annual football camp at North Vigo High School.

About 12 kids showed up to exercise with Weatherford.

“You better not be shy,” Weatherford said at the beginning of the exercise routine. “We are going to have some fun.”

Weatherford and the participants began doing exercises like trunk twists, frog hops, toe touches, jumping-jacks and Simon says.

“Exercise is what made me successful,” Weatherford said. “I want to make it fun for the kids as well.”

Rob Roberts, who was taking pictures of his eight year old son, Ben, said “you can never get enough people telling kids to set goals and pursue them.” Roberts said Ben has always loved the events Weatherford hosts, so once Ben heard about it, “he wanted to go.”

Throughout the routine, Weatherford kept returning to one overarching theme: setting goals.

“When I was a little boy, I wanted to be a doctor,” Weatherford said. “I studied pre-med in school, and now I’m a professional football player. How does that work out? I worked hard in school and then worked hard at football. Try as hard as you can, and dream high.”
