Brazil police investigating Tuesday shooting

BRAZIL, Ind. — Brazil Police are investigating a Tuesday morning shooting that left one man dead.

The name of the dead man was not being released Tuesday afternoon, pending notification of relatives.

Brazil Mayor Brian Wyndham said the investigation is ongoing into the shooting, which occurred sometime around 6 a.m. when a domestic dispute was reported to police.

The man who was shot apparently went to a home on South Vine Street in a neighborhood north of Forest Park, where an alleged battery ensued. The shooting victim, who was shot in the chest, died en route to a hospital, the mayor said.

“It looks like it may have the possibility of self-defense,” Wyndham told the Tribune-Star, adding that no arrests had been made as of Tuesday afternoon.

The man was shot in the upper chest area. He was transported to St. Vincent Clay Hospital in Brazil, and was then being transported to an Indianapolis hospital when he died en route. An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday.

Wyndham said that police have interviewed several people who live in the area.

He said it was unclear when the man’s name would be released or if the name of the shooter would be released.
