Two juveniles linked to Northern Vigo burglaries

TERRE HAUTE — Two juveniles have been arrested after being linked to a rash of recent daytime burglaries in the area of Clinton Street and Rosehill Avenue in North Terre Haute.

Chief Deputy Clark Cottom of the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department told the Tribune-Star that two arrests were made Wednesday, and one of the juveniles may be waived into adult court.

Cottom said detectives began investigating northside burglaries that occurred in March and found seven incidents of similar circumstances. When detectives followed up through confidential informants, some of the items stolen in the buglaries were found at an area pawn shop. One of the burglaries involved more than $10,000 in jewelry, diamonds and firearms.

Detectives received an arrest warrant for probable cause on an individual on Wednesday morning, Cottom said, and while deputies were still in court, police were dispatched to another reported burglary in the same area.

As detectives were serving an arrest warrant on the suspect in that burglary, they located items allegedly taken during multiple burglaries, including the Wednesday morning incident.

The follow-up investigation led police to seek a probable cause warrant for another juvenile, Cottom said, and that teen was arrested Wednesday afternoon.

He estimated the value of the items taken during the multiple daytime burglaries at about $25,000.

The juveniles were lodged at the Vigo County Juvenile Center and were expected to appear in juvenile court today. Police are requesting that one of the juveniles be waived into adult court.
