TERRE HAUTE —
No injuries were reported from a fire that badly damaged a two-story home in Terre Haute’s historic Farrington’s Grove neighborhood Wednesday night.
Reported about 7:15 p.m., the fire reached its peak a few minutes later as glowing orange flames emerged from side-by-side upper-story windows. Firefighters entered the home in the 700 block of South Center Street and extinguished the flames largely from the inside.
The Terre Haute Fire Department, which sent several vehicles to the scene, made short work of the blaze, having it largely extinguished in about 30 minutes. Despite temperatures well below freezing, neighbors filled the sidewalks to see what was happening.
The home appeared to have been unoccupied at the time of the fire, said a fire official on the scene. A cause of the blaze was not immediately known.
