Rockville woman reaches plea agreement in prostitution case

TERRE HAUTE — A former Rockville woman pleaded guilty to a prostitution charge Thursday and received a one-year suspended sentence.

Denise Owsley, 42, will also serve 40 hours of community service while she is on informal probation. Judge Michael Eldred approved the plea agreement, which sentenced Owsley for the class-A misdemeanor prostitution charge while dismissing a class-D felony theft charge.

Owsley was arrested July 10, 2009, after city police investigated a theft report at an area hotel.

The probable cause affidavit filed in court states that Owsley was one of two women who went with a local man they met at a bar to a motel to engage in sex acts for $100. After about an hour, two men knocked at the door of the hotel room and demanded that the man pay the women for their services.

After a scuffle, the man escaped from the room and called police. During the scuffle, he alleges the women took his wallet and money from his pants pocket. Owsley and another woman were arrested following the incident.

Owsley has since moved to Illinois, and the judge agreed to allow her probation and community service to be transferred to her county of residence.
