TERRE HAUTE —
A Terre Haute man has been charged with eight felonies in connection with child molestation and sexual misconduct that allegedly occurred from 2008 through 2013.
Charles French, 51, was arrested Thursday afternoon on a Vigo Superior Court 1 warrant as the result of an investigation by Detective Travis Chesshir of the Terre Haute Police Department.
The information filed in the case states French allegedly fondled three girls younger than age 14 on multiple occasions, resulting in the class-C felony child molestation charges. The four class-C felony charges of sexual misconduct with a minor allege that French fondled or touched four girls ages 14 to 16 on various occasions. And the eighth criminal count of child seduction, a class-D felony, is connected to fondling or touching a girl between ages 16 to 18.
Some of the charges are connected to the same alleged victims, but must be charged differently due to the age of the defendants when the alleged incidents occurred.
French is scheduled to return to court on Sept. 17 for an attorney appearance. A trial date is set for Feb. 10. He was being held in the Vigo County Jail with bail set at $75,000.
