Formal charges coming today in weekend homicide

Body was wrapped in blanket, tarp, then tied

TERRE HAUTE — Two women arrested for obstruction of justice have told police that they tried to clean up the scene where Ronald Arrowsmith was found dead Friday.

Rhonda S. Reynolds, 53, and Amber M. Reynolds, 33, are to appear today in Vigo Superior Court 1 where formal charges are to be filed related to the homicide in the 2200 block of First Avenue. The mother-in-law and daughter-in-law reside in the home where Arrowsmith’s body was found in the basement – wrapped in a blanket, then a tarp, and tied with twine.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Vigo Superior Court 1, Amber Reynolds told Terre Haute Police investigators that she and her mother-in-law discussed what to do after Arrowsmith was killed. She said they used a cleanser and old shirts to try to clean up blood stains, but no one called police about the dead body in their basement.

Rhonda Reynolds also told police that she picked up shell casings and threw them away, and she hid the rags used to clean up the blood. She told police that she was at home when she heard gunshots, so she went to look for her daughter-in-law and found her in the basement along with the dead body.

Amber Reynolds had a head injury that she told police rendered her unconscious for a while. She also said that other people who had been in the home before the shooting were gone when she regained consciousness.

According to the court records, the shooting occurred in the early morning hours on Friday. However, police were not notified about the dead body until about 8 p.m. Friday after Arrowsmith’s girlfriend went looking for him at the Reynolds’ residence.

As of Wednesday afternoon, police were continuing to seek people connected to the shooting.
