New date set for attempted murder trial

TERRE HAUTE — A new trial date has been set for a Terre Haute woman charged with attempted murder.

Elisha M. Charles, 34, has a Nov. 4 trial date in Vigo Superior Court 6.

However, Charles remains in federal prison in Danbury, Conn., with a projected release date in July 2016 on a drug-related conviction.

Judge Michael Lewis directed that Charles be transported to Indiana for her trial, and an Oct. 16 hearing in the Vigo County case.

Charles was arrested in October 2008 on allegations that she attempted to kill her former boyfriend when she stabbed him in the torso. Her public defender has stated that the stabbing was the culmination of years of abuse by the boyfriend, who was later sentenced to 11 years in state prison for his involvement in the drive-by shooting of two Terre Haute homes in May 2009.
