BREAKING UPDATE: Rose president resigns

TERRE HAUTE — Rose-Hulman President Gerald S. Jakubowski today tendered his resignation to the Board of Trustees and will leave the eastside engineering college effective June 30.

"Rose-Hulman is a phenomenal place. I enjoyed interacting with the students and working with the faculty and staff," Jakubowski said in an announcement to the campus community. "Of all the places I worked, I never saw a finer collection of talented, ambitious, multi-dimensional students.

"I never experienced a more dedicated group of faculty and staff. I stand in awe of your knowledge and professionalism. Your firm commitment to education has been recognized for a decade as the nation's best. The students, alumni, faculty and staff of the Rose-Hulman family have created some of the best memories in my academic career.

"Lynn and I extend best wishes to the Rose-Hulman community for continued success," the president said.

Jakubowski became the 13th president at Rose-Hulman on July 1, 2006.

From 2004 to 2006, Jakubowski was vice president and provost of Arizona State University Polytechnic campus. Prior to that, from 1990 to 2004, he was dean of the College of Science and Engineering at Loyola Marymont University in Los Angeles.

He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering and his doctorate in engineering science from the University of Toledo. His areas of expertise include thermodynamics, fluid mechanices, heat transfer and energy.
