ISU Greeks camp out for Coats for Kids

Event part of national effort

Tribune-Star staff report

Members of ISU’s Greek community gathered for a cause during a three-day camping trip in the middle of campus.

Jaden Brown, president of Indiana State University’s Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, said the group launched its ATO Campus Camp-Out on Tuesday for Coats for Kids, a national group which provides winter coats to children in need.

The group will camp out next to the university’s library until noon today.

“It wasn’t bad last night weather-wise, until about 4 a.m. Then it got a little cold,” the junior education major said Wednesday.

House philanthropy chairman Neil Dittmer said the group had raised about $1,000 Wednesday by selling sponsored tags and accepting donated funds as well as coats.

“This is the second time we’ve done the campout,” the junior education major said, noting the group had Corn Hole, pizza and card games lined up for the evening and other fraternities and sororities were expected to participate in an All-Greek social.

“ATO Sweetheart” Michaela Mitchell of Sigma Kappa sorority said the event is great for “getting together as a whole Greek community.”
