UPDATE: Police identify Scott Javins remains in car pulled from river

Staff report
The Tribune-Star

TERRE HAUTE Authorities tell the Tribune-Star they have identified human remains found in a car pulled Friday from the Wabash River as those of Scott Javins, the Indiana State University student from Terre Haute missing since May 2002.

The office of the Vigo County Prosecutor, the Vigo County Sheriff's Department, the Terre Haute Police Department and the Indiana State Police say they have continued their investigation throughout Saturday into the car belonging to Scott Javins.

A release from the office of Vigo County prosecutor Terry Modesitt said that a team led by Dr. Stephen Nawrocki from the University of Indianapolis recovered a human skull and mandible, or lower jaw, from the vehicle. These items were transported to Dr. John R. Mast, the release said, where a comparative analysis was done with the dental records of Scott Javins. The remains were found to be those of Scott Javins, the release states.
