Making Democracy Work deadline extended

— The deadline for The League of Women Voters of Vigo County’s inaugural Making Democracy Work Award has been extended to July 15. The award will honor a woman who has been active in the community as a role model for civic improvement and promotes equality of rights and privileges for all people. This woman has envisioned a way to work with and engage others to make our community strong, vibrant and fair.
“The League of Women Voters has had an impact on national, state and local issues and policies for decades. We will celebrate that tradition and recognize those who share our passion for making a difference through this award,” said Vigo County League of Women Voters President Stephanie Land.
The award will be presented at the Women’s Equality Day Luncheon at the Girl Scouts of Central Indiana Program Center in Fairbanks Park on Aug. 26.
The luncheon will mark the 88th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, giving women the right to vote.
Nominations for the Making Democracy Work Award are open to any woman in west-central Indiana who has contributed to our community in a meaningful way.
