State Rep. Clyde Kersey, D-Terre Haute, said the State Budget Committee has approved nearly $3 million in improvements to buildings on the Indiana State University campus.
During a Friday meeting on the Ivy Tech campus in Valparaiso, the committee gave its go-ahead for a $2.6 million project for Hulman Center, which would include asbestos removal, replacement of ceiling and lighting systems affected by the asbestos removal and an upgrade of the existing HVAC system in the lower and middle levels of the building. In addition, the meeting rooms on the lower level will be renovated.
An additional $250,000 in expenditures will allow the university to begin replacement of the limestone steps to the entrance of Tirey Hall. The original steps, built 70 years ago, have deteriorated and are hazardous to pedestrians.
