Mother Nature wreaks havoc across the Wabash Valley

More than 7,000 people lose power at some point Sunday

Staff Report
The Tribune-Star

TERRE HAUTE As wind speeds increased through Sunday afternoon and evening, area emergency crews found themselves pulled in many directions.

Trees and power lines were knocked down in various sections of the city, and many Vigo County residents experienced power outages.

The National Weather Service observed wind speeds of up to 28 mph throughout the afternoon, with gusts of up to 44 mph.

As of 6:30 p.m., the Duke Energy Web site showed that 2,050 residents were without power. More than 7,000 residents lost power at some point through the day, according to the site.

No injuries had been reported as of Sunday evening due to downed trees or power lines.

If you observe any downed power lines, call 1-800-POWERON. Do not touch a power line or anything touching a power line, such as tree limbs, tools or toys.
