Sullivan looking at possible recount

Staff report
The Tribune-Star

SULLIVAN A possible recount is on the horizon in Sullivan County with a 36-vote difference between the Democratic candidates for District 3’s county commissioners in Tuesday’s primary.

Though County Clerk Shelly Hiatt Parris didn’t think any races were close enough for a recount, she said “you never know what a candidate’s going to do.”

Some minor machine glitches occurred in the morning, but didn’t hold up any voting because there was one working machine and they were able to get a second machine to the precinct quickly, she said.

The 42.8 percent voter turnout for Tuesday’s primary was better than the last general election, which was somewhere between 30 and 35 percent, Hiatt Parris said.

“Indiana having a voice [in the presidential race],” she said, “I think helped push people to the polls.”
