More than 8K head to the polls in Clay County

Clay County voters turned out in force Tuesday, bringing more than 8,000 voices to the polls.
“Good, very good,” County Clerk Mary Brown said, describing election turnout for the 2008 primary.
Brown said the 2006 primary generated a 25 percent voter turnout, compared to this year’s 41.66 percent. “I’d say pretty close,” she said when asked Tuesday night if that day’s turnout was record-level.
From the 23 precincts voting, 7,248 machine ballots were processed, plus 837 absentee (early votes) counted. All in all, 8,085 of Clay County’s 19,406 voters participated, according to unofficial Tuesday night results.
“It was a busy day, went quickly,” Brown said, thanking “all the poll workers,” and noting, “they did a great job.”
