A Vermillion County man is dead after a one vehicle accident around noon Saturday attributed to icy roads.
The Vermillion County Sheriff’s Department reports that Michael R. Daugherty, 61, of Perrysville was driving north on County Road 200E a few miles southwest of Covington when his Ford F-150 pickup left the road, slid through a field and began to barrel roll.
The pickup truck came to rest on its wheels; however, Daugherty was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from his vehicle, police report.
Rescue workers took Daugherty to Logan Campus Hospital in Danville and then to Carl Foundation Hospital in Champaign/Urbana where he died later Saturday, according to the Vermillion County Sheriff’s Department. No one else was in the vehicle at the time of the accident, police report.
Vermillion County Sheriff’s Deputy Chris MacLaren concluded the accident appeared to be caused by icy roads and County Road 200E was closed for about one hour while police investigated at the scene, officials report. In addition to the Vermillion County Sheriff’s Department, Vermillion County EMS and Perrysville Rescue responded to the accident, police report.
