No one was injured in a residential fire Sunday afternoon in Alan Acres subdivision south of the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds in west central Vigo County.
The fire, accidentally caused by a cigarette, was contained to a single room in the home before being extinguished by the Honey Creek Fire Department after 4:30 p.m, said Honey Creek Fire battalion chief Jason Rader, who was also the investigator at the scene.
Firefighters were on the scene of the fire at 318 W. York Dr. four minutes after receiving a 911 call from the homeowner at 4:28 p.m., Rader said.
While a single room and its contents were badly damaged in the blaze, Rader said the family was able to occupy other parts of the home.
