Band to present ‘Yankees, Showboat and the Librarian’

----

BRAZIL — The Brazil Concert Band, under the direction of Matthew S. Huber, will present “Yankees, Showboat and the Librarian” at 8 p.m. Sunday at Forest Park in Brazil.

The “Yankees” include “Damn Yankees,” a favorite Broadway musical along with soldiers of the South and North in “The Blue and the Gray,” featuring music of the Civil War.

Classic overture of the week is “Light Cavalry,” arranged by Henry Fillmore, along with Fillmore’s march “Men of Ohio.” The “Showboat” is an arrangement by Russell Bennett. “Marian the Librarian” is from “The Music Man,” Meredith Willson’s musical about deception, love and brass bands. Back by popular demand is “Memories of Stephen Foster” by Guy Holmes with its “Way Down Upon the Swanee River.” “The Iowa Brigade,” “Call of the Road” and “The Thunderer” will keep everyone in step.

With the mythical town of River City, Iowa, a river boat and Florida’s Swanee River in mind, the Brazil Concert Band will be heading to the shores of the Wabash River on Saturday for the Banks of the Wabash Band Festival at Fairbanks Park in Terre Haute.
