Sign up to attend Rock ’N’ Roll Fantasy Camp this summer

Danville, Ill. — The David S. Palmer Arena & DACC are partnering to present “First Gig: Rock ’N’ Roll Fantasy Camp” this summer, June 25-30. The majority of the day camp will take place at the Bremer Center on DACC’s Campus with the final concert taking place at the David S. Palmer Arena on the final day.

The week-long camp is meant to have a regional draw where students from all over will experience playing in a band and performing on stage with the help of a number of area musicians.

The fundamental classes offered are in vocals, guitar, bass, keyboard and drums; however add-on courses (which may be taken individually) are offered in songwriting and production.

The camp will be overseen by musicians Tom Grassman, Michael “Guido” Estevez and Jeff Markland, who together are The Chicago Blackhawks Band (The Official Band of the Chicago Blackhawks Hockey Team).

“I picked these musicians because not only are they extremely talented but also because, as performers, they love what they do,” said Arena general manager Peter Blackmon. “They have fun on stage and they let their audiences have fun with them.”

The group will be assisted in this project by more than 30 different local musicians.

“We think this camp has a lot of potential” adds Laura Hensgen, coordinator for DACC’s Community Education. “We think this has uniqueness to it much like the Broadcasting Camp we run in partnership with Neuhoff which has continued to grow in popularity for us.”

• Day Camp sessions for bass, drums, guitar, keyboard and vocals are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at DACC.

• Add-on sessions for songwriting and production are from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday at DACC.

• The final show will be June 30 at the David S. Palmer Arena.

For more information call Blackmon at (217) 431-2424 or Hensgen at (217) 554-1668.
