Brazil Concert Band continues Sesquicentennial Celebration

Special to the Tribune-Star

BRAZIL The Brazil Concert Band, under the direction of Matthew. S. Huber, continues its summer-long Sesquicentennial Celebration at 8 p.m. Sunday in Forest Park, rain or shine.

This week’s program offers everything from waltzes and Broadway to marches and old favorites.

March selections include “A Century of Progress” by Sousa and two marches new to the BCB, “Action Front!” by Blankenburg and “The Battle of Shiloh” by Barnhouse.

The BCB also will perform “Galop from Genevieve Brabant” by Offenbach/Bourgeois, “The Walking Frog” by King and “The Whistler and His Dog” by Pryor.

By request, the BCB will play the stately “Presidential Polonaise” by Sousa and “The Blue Danube Waltz” by Strauss.

Harry Gee, a member of the BCB saxophone section wrote “Wabash Plus,” which is a march incorporating Paul Dresser’s “On the Banks of the Wabash.”

A member of the 89th Infantry Band during World War II, professor Gee has published over 150 compositions and was on the music faculty at Indiana State University for more than three decades. Gee will conduct his “Wabash Plus” with the BCB this Sunday.

The BCB will include “Roses of Memory” by Fred Jewell and the overture from “Cabaret.”
