TERRE HAUTE —
“American Idol 5” finalist and Nashville recording artist Bucky Covington will perform his new single, “I’ll Walk,” at an 8 p.m. concert today in the Indiana Theatre at Seventh and Ohio streets.
The eighth-place finalist in the 2006 season of “Idol” will headline the show sponsored by Terre Haute radio station WTHI-HI99.
According to CMT.com, Covington and his twin brother, Rocky, from Rockingham, N.C., auditioned for “Idol” and only Bucky was selected for the hit talent-search show. After elimination, Bucky connected with Sawyer Brown’s management company and Sawyer Brown’s lead singer, Mark Miller, produced Covington’s studio sessions. Lyric Street Records then released his debut album in 2007.
Covington’s first two hit singles, “A Different World” and “It’s Good to Be Us,” from his self-titled freshman album, are featured music videos on Country Music Television and CMT.com.
“A Different World” gave Covington his nomination for the 2008 CMT Music Award for USA Weekend breakthrough video of the year.
And for the latest news flash — all Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus fans, listen up!
A recent story on MusicCityNetworks.com reports Covington will appear as a musician in the new Hannah Montana feature film, “Hannah Montana: The Movie,” to be released in theaters in 2009.
All that hysteria aside, today’s HI99 Thanks for Listening Concert also features established country singer Jeff Bates and up-and-coming Nashville artists Katie Armiger and Emily West.
Bates’ hit singles include “The Love Song,” “Rainbow Man,” “Leave the Light On,” “Long, Slow Kisses” and “Don’t Hate Me for Loving You.”
Armiger’s singles include “Make me Believe” and “17 in Abilene,” and West will perform “Rocks in Your Shoes.”
Audio clips and music videos by Bates, West and Armiger also can be found on CMT.com.
