Guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Mayer fronts his own band, The Peter Mayer Group. Recording under the name PM, Mayer released his debut album for Warner Brothers Records in 1988. Working with Elliot Scheiner (Steely Dan, Aretha Franklin, Bruce Hornsby), this album produced the single “Piece of Paradise,” charting to No. 8 on Billboard’s top 100. PM included Peter Mayer, Jim Mayer and Roger Guth.
When Scheiner was hired to produce Jimmy Buffett’s “Off to See the Lizard” album, he suggested that Jimmy use PM for the recording sessions. Buffett was so impressed with their unique versatility as musicians and performers that he quickly hired them as part of his own band, a relationship that continues today.
Peter Mayer has released eight solo discs, including an original collection of songs of faith, titled “Stirrin’ Up the Water, Stars and Promises,” and “Echoes of the Season.” “Music Box,” released in May 2004, contains songs that have been featured in radio and television play around the world. The song “Faith in Angels” was featured on the television series, “Scrubs.”
Mayer released his ninth solo recording, “Still in One Peace,” in November, containing folk rock and jam influences presented with uplifting songs of life. Along with the stellar musicians in the Peter Mayer Group, there are guest appearances from Mac McAnally and Bill Payne of Little Feat.
