Show Nov. 2 features art from Nicaragua

An art show, featuring artwork from Nicaragua in several different media, will be on display at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the First Unitarian Universalist Congregation at 1875 S. Fruitridge Ave.

A $5 entrance fee will include dessert and beverage.

Ceramics, jewelry, gourds and hand embroidered traditional clothing will be available for sale. All proceeds from the art will go directly to the artisans who made it.

The work is being introduced to Terre Haute by Pat and Kathy Floerke who work for the Center for Development in Central America. The center has worked in Nicaragua for the past 19 years seeking to respond to human needs created by poverty in the second poorest nation in the western hemisphere. The center focuses on working toward freedom from poverty, helping communities become self-sufficient, sustainable and democratic entities.

In addition to an art co-op, the Center for Development in Central America also operates a health clinic, a sewing co-op, and grows and gins its own cotton.
