Pyle museum in Dana open during Oct. 11-20 Parke County Covered Bridge Festival

The Ernie Pyle World War II Museum in Dana will be open during the Parke County Covered Bridge Festival and will accept requests for private tours during the event.

The Covered Bridge Festival opens its 10-day run on Friday and closes on Oct. 20.

Normal museum hours during the festival will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The same days and hours will be observed the second weekend of the festival.

The Friends of Ernie Pyle, a nonprofit organization that owns and operates the museum, will give private tours to individuals or groups outside normal museum hours. To request a tour, call the museum at 765-665-3633.

The museum is on Indiana 71, one mile north of U.S. 36, in the Vermillion County community of Dana, Ernie Pyle’s hometown.

It consists of Pyle’s birth home and adjacent museum,  which strive to preserve and advance the legacy of the famous World War II newspaper correspondent. Pyle was killed by a Japanese machine gunner in the South Pacific in the waning days of the war in 1945.

Admission to the museum is $3.50 for adults; $3 for adults age 55 and older; and $2 for children ages 4-12. Children 3 and under are admitted free.
