‘Eat Well, Play Well’ at Children’s Museum through Sept. 7

What is in the food we eat? Are fruits and vegetables important? Can everyday activities burn calories? Visitors to the Terre Haute Children’s Museum will find the answers to these questions and more by exploring nutrition and fitness in Eat Well, Play Well, an educational science exhibit opening at the museum on Saturday.

The hands-on exhibit is visiting the museum thanks to the generosity of Terre Haute Regional Hospital. It encourages healthy living by teaching the science of making healthy food choices and helping children and adults discover many fun and interesting ways to stay active. Visitors will discover what an appropriate serving size looks like, see firsthand what it takes to burn off calories, test their flexibility and balance, review the latest clinical research and realize that they can reduce their risk of disease with healthy choices. As they interact with the exhibit, guests will quickly learn that healthy choices are within their reach.

Eat Well, Play Well will be on display at the museum through Sept. 7. At various times during the exhibit’s stay, Regional Hospital staff will visit the museum to present guests with information and activities that will reinforce some of the concepts being taught in the exhibit.

“Terre Haute Regional Hospital is committed to playing an active role in promoting health, wellness and safety, and we are especially passionate about giving kids the tools they need to make healthy choices,” said Mary Ann Conroy, chief executive officer at Regional. “We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with the Children’s Museum to bring Eat Well, Play Well to our community. By giving kids fun, hands-on ways to learn about fitness and nutrition, we can help them develop healthy habits that will carry into adulthood.”

The Terre Haute Children’s Museum is at 727 Wabash Ave. Admission is $7 for ages 2 and up. Visit www.thchildrensmuseum.com.
