Terre Haute photographer’s ‘Filmstrips’ on exhibit at Palestine Art Center

PALESTINE, ILL. — The Palestine Art Center will feature the work of Terre Haute photographer Sean Hoisington in the exhibition “Filmstrips” throughout April in the main gallery.

Hoisington, the son of John and Vicky Hoisington, graduated from Robinson High School in Illinois. He graduated from Southern Illinois University with a bachelor’s degree. He went on to graduate from Ivy Tech Community College, cum laude, with an associate’s degree and graduated from Indiana State University with a master of fine arts degree in photography.

Hoisington has displayed his work widely and has received many honors. He teaches photography at The Art Institute of Indianapolis and Ivy Tech in Terre Haute.

“When I was a child, I liked to draw comic book characters,” Hoisington said. “It wasn’t until I received my undergraduate degree that I became really interested in photography.”

Of his approach, Hoisington said: “I have never been interested in photographing reality. Instead, I invent a cinematic reality inhabited by characters reminiscent of the past, yet that exists in the present. A strong narrative with an ambiguous plot dominates my work. The story unfolds through multiple images depicting characters in conflict.” The free exhibit will run through April and will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday in the Main Gallery of The Palestine Art Center, 110 S. Main St., Palestine, Ill.
