MAX JONES: For loyal readers, a bit of news from the T-S newsroom

TERRE HAUTE — As journalists toiling to create a content-rich, relevant and compelling community newspaper each day, we feel a special bond with our legions of readers across the Wabash Valley and beyond.

With approximately 20,000 paid subscribers and tens of thousands more actual readers, we respect that so many of you are spending your hard-earned money and devoting valuable time to consume the information we produce. What’s more, we appreciate the support you give your newspaper as we strive to serve your needs and meet your expectations day after day, week after week, month after month. I would like to think that a community cannot exist without its newspaper. But I know that a newspaper cannot exist without its community.

Through the years, I’ve occasionally tried to keep readers up to date on new developments or projects concerning the Tribune-Star’s news and features content or involving our newsroom staff.

I have a few items to share with you today. As always, please let me know if you have questions or comments.

For the past 10 years, we’ve published biweekly essays by Andrea Neal, former editorial page editor of the Indianapolis Star. She currently is a teacher at a private school in Indianapolis and serves as a columnist for the Indiana Policy Review Foundation, a conservative think tank that produces original research on state public-policy issues.

Andrea is a talented writer with extensive knowledge and valuable insights into issues of the day. She’s also a bit of a historian, which we’re about to find out.

Beginning Thursday, her essays will focus on Indiana history. In observance of the state’s upcoming bicentennial, Andrea will produce 100 columns between now and December 2016 that describe Indiana’s most significant historical events.

This will be exceptional reading and we’ll all be able to learn lots more about our beloved state.
