METRO ROUNDUP: Doll knocks down 20 kills in ISU volleyball win

TERRE HAUTE — Indiana State’s volleyball team picked up a victory Saturday morning by defeating Robert Morris 3-1 (25-18, 25-23, 14-25, 25-19) at the Wright State Invitational.

The Sycamores completed tournament play against the host team later Saturday.

Morgan Dall had 20 kills and setter Loni Mackinson a career-high eight kills to go with 36 assists. Molly Murphy had 16 digs and Kyla Thomas, Dall and Melody Burdette five blocks each.

ISU was 5-4 heading into Saturday’s last match.

In other volleyball

• Engineers 1-1 — At Greencastle, Rose-Hulman avenged an earlier season loss to Olivet before falling to host DePauw in the Tiger Invitational on Saturday.

Rose swept Olivet 27-25, 25-19, 25-14, then won a set against the Tigers before losing 22-25, 25-19, 25-15, 25-10.

Sarah Jensen had 17 kills and 18 assists against Olivet, while Morgan Dreyer had 18 assists, nine kills and three aces. Kate Dangel had 13 digs and Casey Levitt 10.

Jensen had 11 kills and 10 assists in the DePauw match, while Dreyer had 23 assists and 23 digs and Levitt 20 digs.

Now 7-8, the Engineers play Principia and Illinois College at the Rose-Hulman Homecoming Quad next Saturday.

Soccer

• Illinois 3, Indiana State 2 — At Champaign, Ill., Sycamore freshman Abby Reed tied a school record with two goals in a losing cause late Friday.

The Sycamores are now 2-4, Illinois 4-2-1.

Reed matched the record set by her older sister, Taylor Reed, last week at home against Green Bay. She gave ISU a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute, then cut the lead to 3-2 with a score in the 85th minute. Emily Chura and Sydney Lovelace had assists.

Illinois had a 25-11 advantage in shots. Brittany San Roman had seven saves for the Sycamores.

ISU plays at 1 p.m. today at Memorial Stadium against Tennessee-Martin.

• Rose-Hulman 1, Millikin 0 — At Rose-Hulman, freshmen Ben Lyon and Tyler Blankenship combined for the lone goal of the game in men’s action Saturday.

Lyon found the right corner after taking Blankenship’s pass in the 55th minute and Drew Miller made several critical stops in goal as the Engineers improved to 2-1-2. Millikin is 0-5.

• Rose-Hulman 2, Millikin 1 — In the opener of Saturday’s doubleheader, Nicky Wheeler scored a pair of late goals for the victorious Engineer women.

Millikin had a 1-0 lead when Wheeler scored in the 76th minute. Two minutes later she tallied again after picking off an errant pass.

Rose-Hulman, now 3-1-1, plays Tuesday at Fontbonne. Millikin is 3-2.
