Metro/prep roundup: Terre Haute North gets votes in 5A football poll

Terre Haute North’s football team got votes in the Class 5A Associated Press poll. The poll was released on Monday.

The 2-0 Patriots, fresh off a 31-28 win over intra-city rival Terre Haute South, had 6 points in the poll. North was the 16th rated team.

North will play at Northview on Friday.

Rockville remained No. 2 in the Class A poll, receiving one first-place vote. Linton fell out of the top 10, but received votes, and was 12th overall.

In other poll news:

• North ranked in cross country — Terre Haute North’s boys cross country team is ranked No. 3 in the state in this week’s poll. The North girls are ranked 23rd.


• Marshall 2, Martinsville 0 — At Martinsville, Marshall defeated the Bluestreaks 25-19, 25-23.

Highlights — For Martinsville, Gabby Stevens had 9 assists; Cara Cribelar had 7 points and 5 kills; Dani Loera had 6 points.

Next — Marshall (1-0) plays at West Vigo tonight; Martinsville (0-1) plays at the Mattoon invite on Saturday.


• North meet — According to Terre Haute North girls golf coach Abe Nasser Jr., North’s scheduled meet against Greencastle on Monday did not have a score as Greencastle did not have enough players.

• Holes-in-one — On Monday, Joe Young aced No. 1 at Mark’s Par Three. He used a pitching wedge on the 120-yard hole. Ed Shaffer was his witness and it was his first hole-in-one. On Sunday, A.J. Patton aced the No. 2 hole at Forest Park. He used a sand wedge on the 123-yard hole and his hole-in-one was witnessed by Larry Russell, Rodney Compton, Bob Moore and Bruce Hoopingarner. It was Patton’s first hole-in-one.

• Scores — Results turned in to the Tribune-Star from area golf leagues:
