Super Kids Triathlon is Saturday at YMCA, Fairbanks Park

TERRE HAUTE — The Vigo County YMCA and Crossroads Events are partnering to host the Super Kids Triathlon on Saturday at the YMCA and Fairbanks Park.

The event, for kids ages 6-14, will begin in the YMCA pool with a 100-meter swim. The participants will move into a transition area where they will jump on their bikes for a 3-mile bike ride followed by a one-mile run through the park.

Ethan Page of Crossroads Events is thrilled that Elanor Ramsier, executive director of the Vigo County YMCA, approached him about keeping the kids triathlon going after it was started by the city’s Forward Motion Athletics Triathlon Club.

“[Ramsier has] been campaigning against childohod obesity and trying to get children active. Triathlon is a great sport for kids to become aware of,” Page said. “Some kids are meant for other sports. We thought anytime you can kid a child active while they’re young, the more they stay active when they’re older. Especially when it’s a sport you can do older in life. There’s not many adult football leagues or something like that. They’ll continue enjoying being fit and enjying it when older while staying active and healthy.”

Register at the Vigo County YMCA or log on to www.crossroadsevents.com.
