METRO ROUNDUP: Rose-Hulman baseball to play DePauw on Thursday after Tuesday's rain

TERRE HAUTE — The Rose-Hulman baseball team has rescheduled its non-conference game with DePauw to Thursday night.

The start time remains 7 p.m. for the single nine-inning game that was originally scheduled for today. Tuesday’s scheduled Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference game at Anderson was moved to Sunday because of rain.

The Engineers also have added one home game to their baseball schedule. Rose will host Wabash College on May 6 in a makeup for the contest rained out earlier this month.

Softball

n Today’s game canceled — Indiana State’s game against Butler today has been canceled due to Atlantic-10 Conference makeup games scheduled that day, the Sycamores announced Monday.

Next action for ISU is a 2 p.m. home doubleheader Thursday against Illinois State.

• Sycamores sign three — Indiana State has signed three players to national letters-of-intent, coach Shane Bouman announced this week.

The new players are Aubre Carpenter, a middle infielder from Sabino High School in Tucson, Ariz.; and Pima Community College; Kaitlyn Wolken, a player projected to hit in the middle of the lineup from Tonganoxie High School in Lawrence, Kan., and top-ranked Butler Community College; and Yvette Alvarez, a pitcher and slugger from Sahuarita, Ariz., High School and Pima Community College.

 

• Swing for a Cure results — At Terre Haute Miss Softball America, the weekend Swing for a Cure tournament raised $22,000, an $8,000 improvement over the 2012 event.

Tournament winners were Demand Command in 8u, with the Indiana Force the runner-up; Indiana Terror (Sacket) in 10u, with the Edgewood Blaze in second; the Indiana Terror in 12u, with Indiana Matrix second; and Indiana Terror (Ellis) in 14u, with Indiana Terror (Hadley) the runner-up.

Track

• Stallings honored — Rose-Hulman’s Travis Stallings has been named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Competing at the Engineer Twilight Meet on Friday, Stallings won the 400-meter hurdles in 54.55 seconds and ran legs on Rose-Hulman’s winning 4x400 relay team and its second-place 4x100 team.

The Engineers compete this coming weekend at the HCAC outdoor championships at Manchester.
