METRO/PREP ROUNDUP: Moren, Hile enter Hall of Fame

TERRE HAUTE — Amy Hile, Indiana State’s all-time leading scorer and its all-time leading rebounder until last season, and current Sycamore women’s coach Teri Moren were honored Saturday at the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.

Hile, who finished her ISU career with 1,944 points and also had 916 rebounds — the ISU career mark until broken during the 2011-2012 season by Shannon Thomas — was honored as a member of the 11th women’s induction class.

The Fort Wayne Dwenger graduate is one of only three Missouri Valley Conference players with more than 1,900 points and 900 rebounds, the other two being Jill Martin and Wanda Ford of Drake.

Moren, a former Indiana All-Star who graduated from Seymour in 1987, was a member of the 2012 Silver Anniversary Team.

Women’s Induction Class — Shelly (Brand) Adlard, Evansville Reitz; Stan Benge, coach, Ben Davis; Anita (Folk) George, Warsaw; Linda Godby, Warren Central; Amy Hile, Fort Wayne Dwenger; Bob Kirkhoff, coach, Indianapolis Cathedral; Mike McCroskey, coach, Kokomo; Audrey (Baines) Moore, Jeffersonville; Sue Parrish, coach, Marion; Judy (Burns) Powell, Marion; Sharon Roberts, coach, New Castle.

Honors

• Two Engineers selected — Rose-Hulman student-athletes earned two Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference weekly honors as announced Monday.

Carly Heibel was named Softball Pitcher of the Week and Ben Paras was Men’s Tennis Player of the Week.

Heibel pitched a four-hit shutout in the opening game of a Saturday doubleheader against Defiance that kept the Engineers temporarily alive for a conference tournament berth and had a 1.75 earned run average in eight innings for the week.

She finished her freshman season with a .402 batting average with 16 doubles and five home runs and was 5-7 as a pitcher with six complete games and a 4.30 earned run average. Rose-Hulman’s season is over with a 14-26 record, 7-9 in conference games.

Paras finished the week with 2-0 marks at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles as the Engineers earned the fourth seed in this weekend’s HCAC tournament. Rose is 9-6 overall and hosts Vincennes today.
