METRO ROUNDUP: ISU defensive end named to academic team

Senior defensive end Daniel Millington has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Second Team.
A graduate of Terre Haute North High School, Millington carries a 3.91 grade-point average in exercise science and is on track to graduate in May 2010. He was named to the league honor rolls by the Gateway Conference and Missouri Valley Football Conference the past two seasons while also earning the Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award in 2008-09.
Millington finished his Sycamore career with 35 total tackles over his senior campaign. He had six tackles for loss and three sacks for 29 yards, and was also credited with three quarterback hurries.
Basketball
• Rose-Hulman wins — At Springfield, Ill., Rose-Hulman relied on two key defensive plays and a pair of free throws in the final minute to hold off Robert Morris-Springfield 70-64 in men's basketball action Tuesday night.
With Rose-Hulman holding a narrow 64-63 lead and Robert Morris gaining a steal, senior Jeff McCartney drew a charge on guard Emmanuel Boston with 36.7 seconds left.
After a pair of free throws by sophomore Blake Knotts increased the lead to 66-63, freshman Nate Gissentanner swiped a steal and went the distance for a layup to give Rose-Hulman a 68-63 lead in the final seconds.
Gissentanner led three Rose-Hulman players in double figures with 19 points on 6-10 from the field. Sophomore Spencer Harlan also reached double figures with 13 points and seven rebounds.

n Craft’s game-winner leads Trailblazers — At Vincennes, point guard Megan Craft, a former Terre Haute South standout, capped off Vincennes’ 70-68 victory against visiting Southeastern Illinois on Monday night by getting to the rim surprisingly easy — pretty much unimpeded — and her layup put VU up with less than a second to play.
