Metro Roundup: Rose men’s soccer sets school record for wins in a row

Rose-Hulman men’s soccer set a school record by winning their eighth straight game as the defeated Franklin 2-1 Tuesday night.

Freshman Zane Englert led the Engineers as he scored both goals in the game.

Englert’s first goal was scored in the 28th minute off an assist from junior Corbin Clow that hit off the right post before finding the net.

His second goal was unassisted as he knocked in the rebound off senior Rhys Evans shot that hit the crossbar in the 53rd minute.

Junior goalie Andy Kruth recorded his sixth win of the year with the victory. He also recorded six saves in the contest.

Joel Fisher scored his goal in the 90th minute to make it the 2-1 difference.

The Engineers return to action Saturday afternoon as they face Bluffton in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest.

Volleyball

• Casey wins — At Casey, Ill., the host Warriors picked up a 12-25, 25-12, 25-14 victory against Stew-Stras on Monday.

Kara Repp had eight points, eight kills and two blocks.

Highlights — For Casey, Kara Repp had 27 assists, 8 points, 8 kills and 2 blocks; Michaela Montgomery 8 kills, 1 block; Lacy Maulding 14 points, 27 assists and 5 digs; and Jordan Hutton 13 digs.

• Rockville wins — At Covington, Beth Mahurin had 14 kills, six blocks and seven aces to lead Rockville to an undefeated Wabash River Conference season.

JV — Covington won 15-25, 25-18, 15-10.

Next — Rockville (23-4, 7-0 WRC) plays Thursday against Covington in the Class A Covington Sectional.
